Wizards of the Apocalypse is a fun adventure story with a twist. I have never read a book with zombies in it, but I was genuinely surprised with Catherine’s unique take on them, avoiding the clichés we often see in film. She takes a fantasy approach, creating a worldbuilding system that helped me view them more as a race, than just brainless corpses wandering around looking for flesh to consume. I loved the action, magic, worldbuilding, and the wonderful descriptions that grounded me in the story. Catherine’s prose is tasteful and delightful. I can’t count how many times I chuckled at character banter or random actions occurring in the background. I truly enjoyed this book!

X Zombie creates a fun world blending both mythical creatures sure as elves, dragons, and wizards with the zombie apocalypse. I love MG fiction, and this one has definitely been one of those experiences where I have a fun time reading each chapter. Malice as a villain is great, and I love the dynamic between Tibia, Zombia, Cerys, and Tristan. The book is also illustrated, giving more insight to the characters and their world. Can’t wait to pick up more of these!

The characters Tristan, Zombia, Tibia and Emerson are charters to root for and are well developed. I love the dragon Shadowstalker! I enjoyed the dragon magic and the dragons connection to the characters. I even started to like the antihero Marcus and development of his character. This is an amazing and fun fantasy.

Wizards of the Apocalypse: The Forgotten Prophecy was a unique read unlike most books on the market. X Zombie's debut provides a unique blend of horror, fantasy, whimsy, and friendship that's great for both younger and older readers.
